Create a post that defines your world view. Include any of the information that we discussed in class or anything else that is relevant.
For replies, since we know each other we can add, comment, or question people on the characterizations of their world view.
Have fun!!!

What exactly do you mean by world view? Like how we view the people? Or the cultures? Or a generalization? I don't understand what you're asking as the assignment.
Did you want us to list or write something showing our world view? I don't understand either.
My world view, I think, is a positive one. I think that conflicts and problems are in the Middle East only to make the world a better place in the end. These conflicts are able to be fixed, not through violence but through common sense. What Bush is doing doesn’t make it better, in my opinion, they make it wore. But in the end the world in my view is a great place to be!
I view the world with tempered optimism. I see the world as full of pain, suffering, and problems, the role of each individual is to decreas that suffering in as many ways as possible. The world is constantly in a state of decay, trees are dying, humans are hurtling toward each other desperate to hit, maim, and murder, the world is suffering. My job is to decrease the pain and ease the suffering of others. That's one reason why I teach. The best antidote I can see to a world of suffering is education. The only way of empowering others to fight against it is education.
The reason why I read books is to understand the world and the psychology of the people who inhabit it. I am very emotional and analytical about the world. I see a problem and break it down, understanding that there are no easy solutions to a problem.
The world is one huge system, comprised of other systems. The way a system works is all of the parts affect all of the other parts. I believe that the death of a child in Africa affects me and everyone else. In that way I'm optimistic. I can make a difference. I DO matter. (so do you).
My views of the world are spiritul, but not religious. My wife is a Catholic and I go to church with her on occasion and have agreed to raise our kids as Catholics, although I, myself, am not. I see this universe as a huge system as well. There may be a universal controller, a "god" if you will. But I agree with Einstein that this "god" balances the entire universe through rules of physics and is not concerned with the goings on of the individual or their thoughts. I call this "god" the "mystic" because there is something mystical about the world. The way nature can strike you sometimes as so profound, even though you have no idea why. That's the mystic.
My world view may sound pretty well defined but I also have the humility to agree that mine is mine and nothing more. I would never feel "right" enough to preach to another, as if I knew all of the answers. In fact, as stated before, I believe the answers are so complex and intricate that few, if any one can really achieve those answers.
I believe that if you leave people alone, even without religion, they will mostly do the right thing. When they act immorally or irresponsibly, there are other issues causing those behaviors. We should always try to empathize, never judge. Put yourself in someone else's shoes, even if they stink.
This is just a part of my world view. I hope you understand what to do now.
I guess you could say I'm optimistic about the world. The famous test about "Is the glass half full or half empty?" I've always said that the glass was just too small. I never really thought about my world view before though. I see both good and bad in people (as a whole). There are a lot of things we could be doing to make the world better, but on the other hand, it could be much worse. I think that the world is slowly evolving. We've evolved to something more complex and were taking the planet with us. Does this mean that as we kill the planet.. we kill ourselves? I don't know. I don't think anyone does. Except God (who is not appearing in this film). If he's there, he probably knows. You'd think (or "believe") that anyway. The world could use a bit of help. Scratch that. A lot of help. And there are people working on that. But some of them are too focused on the wrong things. Rethink what the community really needs. "If we drill for oil now we'll run out later." So what. You'll be dead by then anyway. Do what you need to survive. Everyman for himself.
Heather.
Your view is good. But you're kind of repetitive in your essays. Watch that.
Mr. Holt.
I didn't know any of that about you. Do you really call "God" "The Mystic"? Does your explanation mean you view the world "religiously" (in a sense)?
It's odd to say call "god" the "mystic", it's not like you can pray to a mystic. What I meant to say is that there are mystical powers and forces in the universe that are too large for us to comprehend, that makes them mystical. That idea sounds a lot like many people's definitions of God, too big for us to ever know, so it's the easiest analogy for me to make.
My world view is more on the optomistic side. However, I do still see the bad, I just prefer to concentrate on the good. Seeing the humerous sides of situations is how I stay positive. I believe what's right is right and what's wrong is wrong. There isn't too much of a gray area. I belive murder is wrong in every instance. Killing animals, abortion, and the death penalty are all acts that are morally wrong.
I don't have a religous view on the world. I know that there is something out there that is too vital to our being for anyone to understand. Maybe it's a god, maybe it's not. I was never raised to be religous, so my views on it tend to be different. I do believe everything happens for a reason, and that karma and dharma are very real. Possibly even linked to the "unknown being".
I think Aggy's world view as been the same way since I've known her. (Six years.) She's definatly always had "the glass is too small" outlook. I wouldn't really say she's optomistic, but she's not pesimistic either.
I agree with Wanda when she said that there is not much grey area, as well as what's right is right and whats wrong is wrong. But Wanda why can't you see the world in a religous way? Are you not religous or is it that you just can't?
Wow Mr. Holt there is a lot to learn about you! So if your spiritual then do you believe in heaven and hell? If you read books to understand the psychology of the people in the world, then is that why you decided to become an english teacher? I liked how you said that the death of a child in africa matters to everyone. Oh and that you said that we all make a difference!
Oh! Aggy thanks for the note I will keep it in mind!
It's because I'm not religous, so I can't.
