Due 9/11

Pick a teacher at your school (each a different teacher, please, you can't all choose me or Mr. Sellers), and then define the rhetorical choices they make to present their school "persona." These choices are not limited to verbal and non-verbal communication, but include clothes, appearance of room, actions, reactions of others, etc.For example: He always stands outside his room to greet each of his students as they enter, but he is never smiling. What he is saying is: I have to be here and so do you.

Go back to 2007, blog #4 to see what others have said about the same teacher!

Due 8/8: the last blog!

This is a bit different from the assignment sheet I've given you. For this week's blog all I want is for you to create your argument as to whether this year's summer assignment was effective. Remember, as always, to post two replies (which challenge or offer more support) to other people's comments.

You can discuss any part of the assignment, from the textbook to the blog to the requirements and due-dates.

Good luck and enjoy the rest of your summer!

Due 8/1

Find and read an editorial from any paper or news magazine. Post your response to the article, with a link to the article so others can read it. In your responses, be sure to start using some of the AP language we've begun to develop over the summer. You can challenge, qualify, or support the claims made in the editorial.

It's fun to use local news, try the free lance star: http://www.fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/opinion

Week 1, q.3: Field TRIP!

Let's go to an art museum. Go to the attached website and explore the Panoramas. As you visit the different pages, take notes on the techniques and "rhetorical" strategies employed by panoramas of different time-periods and different subjects. In your first post, summarize the virtual museum's exhibition. What is it about, what did you learn, etc.

In your second post, link to the panorama (or thematic group) that resonates with you the most, explain why, and note how the format of panoramas applies to this picture or group of pictures.

End of Semester 1: Grafiti

For this post, treat the blog like you do the back wall of my classroom:

What's your favorite line, quote, or event from semester one? How does it reflect the goals and expectations of the class?

For replies, you can agree, disagree or challenge.

Remember, BEST OF essays will be due the last A day of the quarter.
