Read the article about halloween in Anne Arundel county. Then respond by noting any logical fallacies used by either side, argue your support or disagreement briefly.

For example, Accidental Discovery and Genocide Day = Columbus Day

Con-Halloween
Generalization- All schools celebrate and broadcast Halloween, and THEREFORE must have an alternative.
Pro-Halloween
Generalization- Assume their kids care what it's called. (I think MOST the kids just ant to dress up and eat candy.)
Anne Arundel county schools have started calling Halloween "Orange and Black Day". Why? What is the big deal about the days name? I understand maybe fighting to keep it out of schools because of someone beliefs, but that would mean fighting to eliminate the day entirely, not just change the name.
Valentine's Day = Buy Your Spouse/Lover/Cute Boy(or Girl)Friend Candy and/or Roses Day.
4/20 = Arbor Day for Weed
Christmas = Jesus Was Born So We'll Give You Presents! Day
Easter = Search for Eggs Day
When the topic of halloween is brought up, there is alot to consider. Assuming that one agrees with the concept of halloween has just included an unwilling participant. Sure most kids call it Halloween but there are others that don't, but are still required to attend the school that 'Halloween' is at. Why can't there be an All Saint's day for christians? The term halloween was combined from the two words meaning hallows eve. This day was when they purified everyones souls to prepare for All Hallow's Day [aka All Saints day]
On the other side, Hallloween is another day. The only exception is you get to dress-up, have fun and get loads of candy while trick-or-treating. Even though the children are dressing up like scary monsters and battered vampires, most of them do it for the fun. It has no meaning of evil spirits or evil souls, it was a purification process used by christians for their all saints day.
Halloween is a day that kids get together and have fun. Don't give it a nickname. That's so unprofessional. Get rid of it or call it Halloween. It's a nationally used word, if you don't like it, fight it. Nicknaming it to conceal the offensive name is still promoting it, just in a less effective way.
Thanksgiving - Pass the Gravy Day
Valentine's Day - Cupid's Gonna have a Sore Butt Day
Christmas - Forget Jesus, Where's the presents Day
New Year's - Get no Sleep to watch a ball Drop Day
4th of July - Red, White and Blue Day
Replying to What aggy said,
Yes I totally agree with your argument! It's a fantastic one and so genius. Just get rid of Halloween if you're trying to fight it. Compromising to something such as 'orange and black day' is still supporting it.
I agree with what she said about changing the name still prompting the day. Because it does. If you are so against the idea then you should fight to remove it completely, not just the name.
I agree with Aggy. 4/20 is like Arbor Day for weed. Also, children probably really don't care what Halloween is called as long as they get to rot their teeth out.
